Jackdaw in the chimney

This blog will comment on all sorts of things, including efforts to sell vintage on Etsy and Ebay. It may mention our garden and it might mention things that I have read recently, together with with other lifestyle topics. We will see where we get to.

I have decided to re-organise my day and have a regime of rising at 6.30am and going to bed at 10.30pm. I have become a bit lazy lately but do have the excuse of a chest infection which has lingered on for 3 weeks or so.

Tuesday. As I write this we have a bird stuck in our kitchen chimney, which is probably one of the rooks or jackdaws which are nesting in the trees nearby. The last one which got stuck, a few weeks ago, found its way out from the top, but the current one has been there since last night. I have put some water and bird food up there, as there is a ledge at the bottom and have left the front door open in the hope that it might come out that way.

The good news is that the jackdaw (for that is what he was) made his way out down the removable cover opening over the Rayburn, through the kitchen and out of the front door.

Wednesday. Wet and damp compared with yesterday's bright sunshie and blue sky. I am adding more listings to Etsy: music; sewing patterns and plush toys, of which I have a great quantity, so lots of work to do!



No orders on Etsy for a week, which is very unusual, so I am not sure what is happening! This afternoon I visit the hairdressers, just for a trim and my daughter, boyfriend and dachsund will be here for the Easter weekend. On Friday, we visit my son and his girlfriend to help in their garden, so I hope that the weather will be good.

  I am getting slightly behind with my Scottish travelblog, but here goes. We stayed in the Station Hotel in Thurso for three nights and it was delightful experience. The room was lovely and warm and the staff friendlyand welcoming, The kitchen staff made sure that a vegan option was available for me for every breakfast and evening meal. The first day we were at our leisure in the town, so it was our opportunity to have a walk around after a long coach trip the previous day. During our walk around the harbour wall and along to the beach we met up with various other members of the coach trip, including the driver, and a few of us gathered trying to identify a large black bird sitting on the wall. We decided, eventually, that it was a cormorant. Also in Thurso is a very old chapel, St Peter's, now in ruins but very picturesque against the blue sky. Further and Further

  After leaving The Salutation we drove through stunning scenery and mountains to Pitlochry, where we had time to walk around and get a coffee, or whatever. I spotted two birds on a roof in the main street, who turned out to be oysercatchers. A lady on the coach had a useful bird sound id app on her phone, which I immediately downloaded. It is called Merlin. Next, we proceeded to Inverness where we had time to get some lunch and find the river. Scotland's rivers seem to be very wide and pretty. There is also a Victorian Market Hall here with a variety of food available, and some speciality shops, including jewellery. We walked over the bridge to the Cathedral and found a table outside, where it was just warm enough to eat our sandwiches. Pushing on, we reached Thurso where we would spend three nights at The Station Hotel.
